How to Take care of Your Jewelry

If you want your jewelry to shine as bright as when it was first gifted to you, make sure that proper love and attention is given. Here are some top tips for caring for all of those special pieces!

Three tips for taking care of your jewelry

Tip 1 - Avoid contact with lotions, perfumes, and sunscreens

My tip - Apply all lotions, perfumes, and sunscreen. Then, wait 30 minutes. Accessorize accordingly.

There's nothing worse than looking down at your favorite piece of jewelry and seeing caked on gunk in the settings - lotions, sunscreens, etc. - YUCK!! Trust me, those pieces will never look the same even after you clean them. To keep your jewelry looking its best, make sure to wait until after you've applied any lotions, perfumes, and sunscreens. This will keep your jewels to keep sparkling. Lotion and oil build-up or sunscreen ingredients (like titanium dioxide) can cause discoloration; so don't let that stop being 'the star of the show.'

Tip 2 - Avoid exposure to chemicals and cleaners

My tip - When in doubt, take off all your jewelry. If you need to clean your jewelry, see a professional.

Keep those cleaning chemicals away from your jewelry! Chlorine bleach and ammonia are like kryptonite for jewelry - sure to wreak havoc on metals and gemstones. If you must give it a good scrub, mild soap with water will do the trick; just remember to dry thoroughly afterwards so nothing gets ruined in storage.

Tip 3 - Remove jewelry before washing, showering, pool/beach, and sleeping

My tip - Remember that jewelry is delicate and it should be used to accessorize. It's not meant to be worn 24/7.

I know... you think I'm being dramatic. But the truth is that jewelry wasn't created for you to wearing it day in and day out. Even the finest metals will break down or get damaged. Keep your jewelry out of harm's way - remove it before getting in the shower or hitting the hay! Exposure to harsh chemicals and overnight tangles can quickly turn a beautiful piece into a discolored or tangled mess. Don't let your delicate accessories get washed away- keep them safe until another day!

By following these simple steps, you can help keep your jewelry looking beautiful for years to come. Remember that different types of jewelry may require different care, so be sure to read the care instructions that come with your jewelry.

Protect your precious jewels from the perils of sunshine and scratches with proper storage - like a jewelry box or pouch. By avoiding moisture, heat and direct sunlight you can keep them safe so they'll look sparkly for years to come!
